Women's literacy program
« A literate woman is a productive woman »
Literacy training for rural women is of vital importance to the social, economic and cultural
development of communities. Since its creation in 2004, the Tamaynoute cooperative has set up a literacy program.
Each year, the cooperative organizes literacy courses for its member women, as well as for
women from surrounding villages.
The literacy courses enable rural women to acquire the skills they need to read, write and manage their personal and family matters. This also has an impact on promoting children's education, as a literate mother is more likely to send her children to school and continue their education, breaking the cycle of illiteracy in rural communities.
In terms of health, women's education contributes to a better understanding of hygiene
practices, nutrition and child health, which in turn reduces maternal and infant mortality.
